• Wrote Compiler – 30 months - Java program to convert source code into Java Byte Code. This compiler consisted of about 135,000+ lines of Java source code. In addition to producing Java Byte Code it was able to produce C language source code and an in house language we called “The Rule Engine”. The Rule Engine source was used very heavily in a later set of projects labeled “SAS Model Conversions”.• Model Conversions – 18 months – Process of converting a large programs created by the modeling department into a proprietary language and deploying it at a customer site. This was a truly changeling project for many reasons. There was the human relations aspect. This project had to be done as a team effort with the modelers. I had to work closely with the modelers to get the information I needed to do my job. There were also tight time constraints. The project had a fixed due date. I was able to meet every due date, with a quality product, a happy manager, and a happy customer. .• Margin Manager – 4 months – A team including three programmers and a group of modelers created and client server system to help brokerages predict margin calls. I was involved in this system from the very start. I wrote the backend in coordination with the modelers. • HCS LIFT – 12 months – Very large system for running ProfitMax on UNIX instead of the Mainframe. I received a medium sized book detailing the specifications of this product and was set loose. Using the C language and some proven in house tools used to develop the product Falcon I created a system according to specifications. . • Falcon Product Development and Deployment – 4 months – Helped debug (a small piece) and deploy this large C client/server system. This system reads credit card transaction records from files, scores the transactions based on saved information, and writes the results back to disk. Basically I was given small assignments to debug or develop a part of this system.

Sep 1997 - Nov 2003

Software Engineer

Union Pacific Railroad

Wrote a large amount of code oriented toward system administration. This includes code for UNIX, Microsoft Windows and Netware Servers. An example was a program to add, modify, and delete users from UNIX servers (115 UNIX servers) from a central location.Installed UNIX on several servers. Installed Novell on several servers. Wrote a program to automate installation of Novell on new servers. The user simply inserted a floppy into the disk drive and turned the machine on. When the software was finished, an installed and working copy of Novell was up and running.Wrote a system that allows controlled access to system administration services on UNIX machines (115 servers) (EZAdmin was the package name). This program provided a single sign-on interface to vt100 terminal emulation, a file manager like Windows provides, and a process manager. The terminal emulation was better than the one they were currently using. The file manager allowed modification of all UNIX file attributes and copying between UNIX machines without going through a PC. The process manager provided a tree structure to view and kill processes. This system required extensive network programming using sockets. All configuration information was maintained in an Oracle database.Used embedded SQL for a project to change UNIX passwords across multiple machines in one run, and for the maintenance of EZAdmin configuration files. Modified (sub-classed) the user object in the Novell Directory Service to include an extra member and used it to keep track of the date a user agreed to a user license agreement (Novell Software Development Kit).Extensive Windows client programming using the Borland C++.Wrote a program that ran on 250 Novell servers. This program monitored the backup logs and sent SNMP traps to a console when a backup error occurred.
