I am Michael Leppert, an award-winning lecturer at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. I have also been an Adjunct Professor at the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, also at IU, since 2019. I started my exciting full-time duty on the faculty on August 1, 2021. I value diversity, innovation, and genuinely enjoy educating and mentoring others. These endeavors include my award-winning weekly column published at IndianaCapitalChronicle.com, and featured at MichaelLeppert.com. My second book, and first novel, Flipping the Circle, was published by River Grove Books in November of 2021. Prior to my move to higher education, I was a seasoned Public Relations and Legislative Specialist with 20-years as a private sector lobbyist, working with top government, community, and business leaders to achieve strategic priorities – this includes strategizing and influencing myriad legislative victories, most recently serving as Campaign Manager for Indiana Forward and passing Indiana’s new Hate Crimes law. Formerly the Director of Public Affairs for Krieg Devault, LLP, I am a driven and passionate change champion. Throughout my career, I’ve achieved high-level success driving communication strategy and issue management campaigns, advising clients across industries: Retail, Energy, Telecom, Utility, Transportation, Healthcare, Gaming, and Conservation. I am known as a consensus-builder who is able to communicate complex ideas and sell ROI across organizational lines and to diverse audiences. Building on these skills, I earned my MS, Communications from Northwestern in 2020. During this tenure, we have accomplishment many advocacy initiative and public policy “wins”, highlights include:- As Campaign Manager for Indiana Forward, I leveraged my ability to forge key relationships, built a 1K-member coalition, and successfully passed Indiana’s new Hate Crimes Law.- I’ve successfully advocated for 12 water/wastewater and rural broadband deployment legislative packages – this involved cultivating strategic alliances, developing issue awareness, and advancing client interests.
