Work included building offices in New York, Vancouver, and Denver. Major investment spending time with both current and future customers explaining the next generation of work and how to get there. Oh yeah, and building Slack into a successful public company. That's three in a row if anyone is counting.

Hired as the head of engineering reporting to the CEO. The job: rapidly scale engineering to help Pinterest reliably deliver bajillions of pins to hundreds of millions of monthly active users. Also, figure out how to monetize said pins. Such fun. Went public, too.

Joined as a free electron to develop the leadership training program. Handy at fixing familiar emerging start-up fires. Helped develop engineering offices in Palo Alto, Washington DC, New York, London, and Canberra. Grew the worldwide team from 200 to 1500 over three years. Promoted to Director working for CEO managing real estate, people, marketing, and the cafeteria. It was a strange time for me. Eventually went public.

As a senior manager, lead engineering for part of the Mac OS Server team. Apple Remote Desktop, Managed Desktop, and Netboot. That was me. Part of the team that moved the operating system to Intel. Whew. This is when I learned of the magical powers of program managers. Did a wiki and calendar server in there somewhere. Moved to manage engineering for the Apple Store where in my last year we did $7B in revenue. Hired as first engineering manager at rapidly growing start-up developing (then) cutting-edge web application to empowering the entire workforce to elegantly self-serve the hiring process. Grew the engineering team to 100+ and developed a continuous development cycle before anyone call it continuous development. In the end, the dot-com bubble exploded the world. You've never heard of this place. There isn't even a Wikipedia page. (Web applications, java, application servers, configure or custom?, rapid growth, layoffs)

Began as part of the internal tools team tasked with developing tools to help with engineering velocity. Promoted to manager after a year to manage a team of five before transferring to manage the Java engineering team. Nobody called it a promotion. Early part of the Paradox for Windows team. Developed a deep love of all things database. We sure took a lot of time to ship that sucker. Learned too much about Windows. Borland had the best campus in the valley. Every engineer had an office with a door so you could, ya'know, focus and work.
