I am proud to be heading up the oldest student Counselling and Wellbeing Service in the UK. The University of Leicester has been innovative in so many ways but establishing a Student Counselling Service in 1948 must be one that stands out. I am responsible for managing and developing the Counselling and Wellbeing services at the University of Leicester, ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of service provision and most importantly continuing to meet the needs of our clients.

Ireland

I worked as a Counsellor Therapist with the Adult Counselling Service, Health Service Executive (HSE) National Counselling Service. The National Counselling Service (NCS) is a specialist professional counselling service in Ireland for adults abused as children. My therapeutic speciality is working with trauma, an area within which I have practised since 1998.The modalities I work with include short, medium and long term interventions. I practiced in a range of environments such as outreach centres, prisons and community projects in the west of Ireland. As a clinical supervisor I have engaged in supervision with students on placement with the service. I was an active member of the team and enjoy contributing to the development of clinical practice and policy.As a representative on the Roscommon Mental Health Support Network, which aimed to improve the cooperation and collaboration between the local mental health services in both the voluntary and statutory sectors. We also commissioned research to identify gaps in the local mental health service provision. I was a member of the editorial team for the publication ‘To a life that shines; NCS Ten years transforming the shadows’ (2010) which celebrated the tenth anniversary of the National Counselling Service.

I worked as a Counsellor Therapist with Rian Counselling Service , Health Service Executive’s (HSE) National Counselling Service. The National Counselling Service (NCS) is a specialist professional counselling service in Ireland for adults abused as children. The modalities within which I worked were short, medium and long term interventions. In addition to representing the service on the NCS research steering group, I supervised students on placement within the HSE.I took a key role in the development of a pilot project that provided a counselling service in primary care, overseeing the clinical governance for this service from 2005-2008. In the absence of the Director of Counselling, I managed the Primary Care Counselling Project for one year. This service has now been rolled out nationally and is now known as Counselling in Primary Care (CIPC). I also facilitated supervision groups in the Primary Care Counselling Project.
