For the past 25 years I have been practicing design in the private and public sectors creating learning experiences, temporary and permanent exhibitions, and gallery spaces in the UK, Europe, US, South Africa and Australia. During this time I spent four years building and leading a multidisciplinary design team at the Royal Museums in Greenwich, London, in which I led the design and delivery of high-profile projects, part of the initial phase in an ambitious 10 year masterplan of development and organisational change. My interest in finding sustainable ways to design led me to study Ecology and Design Thinking at Masters level. I graduated with a distinction, and I have been applying the principles of ecology to the design process since. This has included developing a design strategy for a charitable trust, Dartington Hall, helping them to re-imagine an experiment in sustainable living and learning for the 21st century, and the creation of a Centre for the Imagination at an international school in Mussoorie, India, as well as leading the co-design process of a community arts project at a regional museum in the South West. Also, I am currently enrolled in a part-time research-in-practice PhD in design, which seeks to build on my initial investigation into finding ways to generate ecological knowledge through design practices. Alongside my design practice I am a Senior Lecturer at University of Arts, London, and a visiting tutor at Schumacher college and Plymouth University. The focus of my research and teaching practice is to create strategies for design practitioners to better able to respond to complex emerging economic, social and ecological challenges of our times.

The most recent project has been the Museum of Now: Fish Hawkers, a funded community project that reveals the hidden lives of the women working in the fishing industry over the past 150 years in Brixham, and draws attention to the issues around depleted fish stocks, and the health of marine ecosystems, asking questions of its sustainability for future generations.
