Using my own previous experience, I would like to offer some insight into the direction for organisations on their future IT strategy and identify areas where process improvement could offer cost savings.I worked for over 20 years in IT support roles for multiple organisations, ranging from a small start-up CAD company, to a global Out-Sourcer. During this period I have worked across a range of sectors including Travel, Broadband, Local Authority, Pharmaceutical and Automotive\Electric Vehicle manufacturers.Since joining ERA, I have identified what I believe will be several major areas of growth in the future. Cloud Based Storage and application hosting.• Specialised Systems\Software for removing duplication of files. e.g. EMC\DELL Storage Systems.• Amazon Web Services (AWS) - Reduce costs by removing the need for massive site-based storage.• Cloud-based storage offers universal access for organisation's employees. • Microsoft Azure – Allows organisations to host and develop applications using Microsoft or Open Source Programming. Electronic Document Management• Electronic signature applications can reduce\remove the need for paper document storage and costs. • Cloud based Storage provides universal access to these documents from any device.As Organisations adapt to the new normal, like our transport system, Information Technology in will probably use a hybrid model of Cloud and Local for the foreseeable future. These changes will not happen overnight but in the light of recent events I believe the repercussions from Covid-19 will act as a major catalyst.
