I retired from Penn State University June 30th, 2017. It is my intent to keep some connectivity to my research areas and to continue writing in various forms. I am available as well as a Consultant in Cognition, Human-Systems Integration, Teamwork, and Information Sciences. Having said this my intention is to open up new explorations and just do what I feel like doing when I feel like doing it :). Please contact me at: mcneesemike@gmail.com.I completed the active academic phase of my life about 1.5 years ago by finishing the Handbook of Distributed Team Cognition.- my 52nd year of work in research, design, engineering, and education venues. My research scholarship is in the areas of cognitive science, cognitive systems engineering, hemispheric asymmetry and neuro-psychology, artificial intelligence / agents, naturalistic decision making, situation awareness, human factors engineering, and experimental psychology. My experience has enabled many skills including theory construction, cognitive task analysis, information analytics, scenario development, cognitive modeling and simulation design, statistical analysis and experimental design, and the running of many many experiments. I also have skills in engineering design, drafting, and analysis of systems. I have conducted research in domains including aviation-piloting, command, control & communications, and intelligence, emergency crisis management, intelligent analyst work, image analyst work, cyber security, and air force avionics testing.Note! In 2007 I was appointed as a Department Head at Penn State University. I remained in administration until 2014 whereupon I stepped down as the Senior Associate Dean of the College of Information Sciences and Technology, and returned to my role as Professor. I retired from Penn State University in 2017. During my active years as a researcher I published books, journal articles, proceeding papers, book chapters, technical reports, and book reviews across a wide variety of research topics. I have published more than 300 papers during my career as scientist and professor.

I completed more than 1000 drawings for the U.S. Air Force during my collective time in this position.
