Created foundation for software components being shared and reused across product lines (DICOM backend, rendering engine, and algorithms). On both projects, served as project manager and primary contact point for the product integration of the V3D Colon product (EK PACS) and for the development of V3D-Angio (SMS). Coordinated the distributed project efforts, developed the requirement specifications as well as design documents, and contributed to the actual implementation. Conducted Alpha and Beta programs, working with stakeholders and end users to ensure product was meeting needs of customers. Defined project goals based on marketing and customer input, identified and assigned resources for each project, as well as monitored that the project deliverables matched commitment.

• Initiated and conducted the design and implementation of the company’s core medical solution architecture for 2D/3D and 4D application with application specific workflow and presets. The extensible and object oriented architecture allows for rapid prototyping of plug-in type clinical solutions. Based on this core architecture, designed and managed the development of a real-time, general purpose, and multi-modality clinical solution (V3D-Explorer).• Provided requirement specification, design description, and technical support to the project team members. Implementation at unit, module, and system level included XML, STL, templates, and multi-threading. Project was implemented using C++ and C# (.NET) by a team of ten developers. • Experienced full project life cycle, conducted code reviews with all team members, and organized regular project meetings to track project progress and conduct design reviews. The number of team members grew from three during the design to twelve during the implementation phase.

• Conducted research in the field of 3D computer graphics software and hardware, specifically occlusion culling and volume rendering. Analyzed parallel volume rendering algorithms on shared and distributed memory architectures, implementing various improved approaches. Invented special purpose hardware architecture (VIZARD II) for unprecedented true perspective and re-configurable real-time volume rendering. • Successfully organized, initiated, and managed a transfer project with Philips Research Hamburg (Germany) to develop a prototype implementation of this architecture (PCI-card). Coordinated the joint development in a group of five people and tightly collaborated with the industrial cooperation partner. Project included VHDL design, simulation, synthesis, verification, and finally mapping of the net list(s) onto the Xilinx FPGA chip (full project life cycle). • Successfully initiated, conducted, and supervised a project with PixelFusion Ltd (UK) to adapt a specific volume rendering algorithm to PixelFusion's FUZION 150 parallel SIMD architecture, exceeding previously reported results and accomplishing unprecedented interactive frame-rates.
