Michael Mikhail joined UIC in 2012 as professor and Dean. He served as Dean until 2022. As Dean, he was responsible for a decade of growth and success within the College. Under his direction, the college developed new, innovative programs focused on student success, retention, and experience, including: the Business Scholars program, aimed at fostering excellence and leadership skills among the highest achieving undergraduate business students; a mandatory professional development program, iLEAD, which has demonstrated success in developing emotional intelligence as well as social and leadership skills needed for success in today’s work environment; a two-year cohort-based support program for first-year students created and shown to improve retention among first and second year students in the college; and Future Leaders in Business program, which serves underrepresented high school seniors in partnership with UIC Chance to cultivate a diverse learning community and future enrollment at UIC.Dr. Mikhail also oversaw a massive expansion of the college, increasing enrollment by 65% since 2012, while also simultaneously developing and restructuring both undergraduate and graduate curriculum, including: re-conceptualizing the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program to be more accessible and inclusive to students off-campus, which was subsequently ranked #7 best online program by US News & World Report; establishing several new MBA tracks including online, accelerated, and weekend-based tracks; creating a variety of specialized one year masters programs; and instituting an array of internationally focused programs such as the corporate MBA program created in collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Health.Furthermore, Mikhail was a champion of faculty recruitment and development, carrying out an enormously successful faculty recruitment plan to meet the needs of the college in a variety of disciplines, which at the time of its completion accounted for the hiring of 70% of the college’s tenure track faculty, while also elevating the college’s national profile and a rise in UTD Business School Research Ranking from number 128 to 58 over the course of a nine-year period. He previously taught at MIT's Sloan School of Management where he was the inaugural holder of the Theodore T. Miller Chair, at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, and at Arizona State University where he was Director of the School of Accountancy and held the KPMG professorship. Prior to becoming an academic, he was a Senior Consultant with Arthur Andersen in Chicago.
