About Mike Miles
Michael is an internet and broadcast journalist whose rich experience spans more than 35 years, thanks to ambition, talent, a willingness to learn, and an eagerness to take on new challenges. Until December 12, 2015, he was a news producer at CHCH in Hamilton, responsible for on-air content (News Now Midday/Noon News) and online content (CHCH.com). He became available upon the bankruptcy of the Channel 11 Limited Partnership.In 2008 he convinced his bosses to let him look after uploading local content. Making the most of this opportunity, Michael quickly built an audience, duplicating the success he had producing the station's flagship 6 pm newscast (2003-2008), a time during which he had doubled the broadcast's audience. Executive producer John McKenna saw to it that Michael further improved his skills, and sent him in 2005 to the Poynter Institute for Media Studies for the course, 'The Complete Producer'That followed a stint on the assignment desk (2001-2003), first overnights where he helped launch Morning Live, then on the dayside where he deployed and directed crews responsible for doing stories for the 6 o'clock newscast. Because of his computer skills, he was also called upon to help his colleagues when they had problems. He was designated a superuser of ENPS.Michael returned to the city where he grew up after a successful stint at CTV National News (1997-2001), where he was a writer and back-up line-up editor for what is now CTV News Channel. He was also a superuser of Newstar for Windows.That followed a 12-year run at the original Citytv (1985-1997), where Michael started as a video graphics operator, then quickly started adding other duties: production assistant, floor director, weather graphics, and writing. City would be Michael's school of television, broadcasting and journalism combined. In the four years before City he worked at companies that supplied video services and equipment to businesses.
