I work mostly with large multistate corporations dealing with various state and local taxes including income, sales and use, payroll and property. My experience includes income tax planning to minimize state and local income taxes while aligning the tax planning with normal business operations.Most of my work is value added in that I bring value to a business that they did not realize was there. Value includes identifying tax refund opportunities, working with companies to obtain not only missed statutory tax credits such as the jobs or investment credit but also negotiated incentives with various jurisdictions to obtain other incentives for companies that are expanding or relocating.Additionally I negotiate settlements with states either separately or through a voluntary disclosure program to mediate potential tax exposure that a company may have identified where a reserve has been established in their financial statements or potential liabilities that they did not know existed and hence no reserve.
