I am a senior technical leader with experience in both large company and startup environments. I have expertise in computer graphics as well as web, hybrid mobile, and conversational software development. I love building and leading teams with high levels of internal motivation, ownership, and commitment to customers. I started programming over 30 years ago and have never stopped. I’ve found that the technology changes fast, but many fundamentals don’t: writing DRY, clean, well structured code. A culture of quality, with both human and automated tests. Incremental, agile development that fosters honest conversation between engineers and stakeholders as they consider speed, quality and feature tradeoffs. Encouraging engineers to spend time with customers and embed themselves in the problem space. Hiring teams with a diversity of skillsets and backgrounds, and aligning their roles with their strengths. One of my primary strengths is combining deep technical knowledge with the ability to coach individuals in the process of having brave, difficult, respectful conversations that strengthen teams and enhance performance.As a CTO, I believe that engineering must always have a seat at the table when it comes to company strategy, partnerships, and deals. On the one hand, it is essential to make sure that we are set up for success in delivering the technology that is required. But perhaps more importantly, the engineering mindset can identify opportunities that enhance the thought process of other disciplines.
