About Michael Ælfric Nordstrand

Michael Nordstrand is an innovative perfumer, teacher and multidisciplinary artist who began his career in Creative Direction for Fashion & Beauty. His fragrance education, initially undertaken in 2010, includes extensive training, notably with Givaudan, Cinquième Sens, ISIPCA, and The Grasse Institute of Perfumery. He has worked with brands like Jo Malone, Tom Ford, and others that are forthcoming.His unique approach to fragrance is informed by boundless curiosity and a love of history, art, mythology & science. With a deep respect for the art of fragrance creation and the stories it can tell, Michael approaches each project with an inquisitive and open mind, applying his knowledge to solve problems creatively and produce elegant solutions that satisfy client expectations.As the Founder & Chief Creative Officer of Mythologist, Michael leads the creative charge for visual, writing and fragrance development for the brand, which is due out in the next six to twelve months. He was recently brought on to perform similar work for a number of skincare and fragrance brands set to launch in the not-too-distant future.Passionate about equal opportunities in perfume education, Michael became an adjunct lecturer at The Institute for Art and Olfaction in 2020, teaching Creative Development for Perfumery I, II & III. By helping perfumers and brand founders of all skill levels to consider not only the process of olfactive creation but the creativity in marketing product once it has been created, he hopes to expand and improve the current landscape of the perfume industry. Michael's experience is enhanced by the variety of creative positions he has held and projects he has worked on; this unconventional background gives him the ability to see both the finer details and the bigger picture.     In July 2021 I worked with Leigh Winters to develop fine fragrances for a line of perfumes, skin and body care with particular concern for sustainability, environmental concerns, and consumer wellbeing. Focused on upcycled product matrices as well as ethically sourced and bio-generated raw materials from green technology, the challenge was to create beautiful final products to enhance the skin's microbiome and enchant the nose without sacrificing quality or care for the concerns in beauty and fragrance today.
