Michael moved to Toronto from the U.K. and joined Gensler in 2013 as an Analyst, after completing a Ph.D in architecture at the University of Liverpool. Michael has a broad range of experiences that includes architectural design, academic research, journalism, and teaching, all of which contributes to a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between design and experience. Michael’s research interests focus upon examining the unconventional uses of buildings and urban spaces that challenge their intended function. Through this type of research, Michael has been involved with a number of projects that seek to provide alternative insights into the potential opportunities offered by spaces that are created by architects and designers.

Provided design guidance to groups of students on the BA Architecture course.

I worked on a wide range of building projects at different stages and at various scales. Responsibilities included the completion of planning applications, design research, detail design, master-plan design, visualisation, and client / community consultation. Projects Included; Habitat for Humanity, Liverpool - Provided construction design information for the unique charity scheme in Liverpool which provides affordable self-build housing. Flaybrick Hill Wirral - Feasibility study which sees historic ruins conserved and sensitively converted into a study centre dedicated to the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
