Project Description: IBM manages two supercomputers in geographically separate locations in a managed service type environment for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration / Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NOAA NCWCP). IBM provides on-site system administration services, application porting and optimization services and program management for the Weather & Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS). As the Senior Technical Project Manager, my responsibilities have included:• Managing the team that supports the two supercomputers for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS) Program.• Managing the installation and acceptance of 4 system upgrades of WCOSS at two sites. • Interfacing with management and technical staff of multiple vendors (e.g., Dell, Nvidia, HPE) during the installation and operational phases of the systems.• Serving in a key client facing role dealing directly with senior leadership on the customer and IBM teams. • Directing the work of the technical team of HPC Systems Administrators and Application Analysts to ensure that the monthly metrics for system availability, development use time and operational use time are met or exceeded.• Managing all technical aspects of the contract including overseeing the activities of the technical team, working with the client on task priorities, escalating critical situations, leading weekly technical calls with the IBM team, the HPE team and the customer and generating technical reports.• Interacting with customer extensively through daily/weekly/monthly formal and informal meetings.• Evaluating new projects and technology upgrades to address known issues and / or improve operations.• Planning and oversee the technology upgrades and new project implementations.• Tracking and prioritizing client support issues and escalating as needed.

- Managed the installation and test activities of a team spanning multiple countries and organizations to successfully meet contractual requirements of a multimillion dollar Power 7 IH system for a federal government agency. Led daily technical meetings to quickly resolve outstanding issues, providing regular written and verbal updates to both the customer and IBM executives. - Managed customer access to a pre-GA system, meeting regularly with the customer and the internal support team to quickly address problems and new requirements.- Ensured on-time delivery of new function and service updates to customers as the project manager for HPC products (IBM Load Leveler). - Created quality plans for new releases of all HPC products and monitored post GA quality, ensuring the highest level of quality possible for stakeholders. - Interfaced between development, test, build and service groups, as the HPC Level 3 team leader, ensuring the best possible service to customers. - Projected and tracked the multimillion dollar service budget, collaborating with support teams in various organizations in 3 countries.- Provided Level 2 and Level 3 technical support for HPC software products, working directly with customers to identify and resolve problems.- Facilitated lessons learned sessions and drove defect prevention practices, leading to long term process improvements.- Projected and monitored yearly quality metrics for all HPC products for the past 5 years.- Led and was a key contributor to a 3 person team re-engineering the method used to deliver software updates to customers, resulting in savings to the organization of over 100K per year.- Facilitated the collaboration between development and client representatives to identify and document large systems' Best Practices and Procedures; enabling more efficient installation and configuration of new systems.
