Mike is an experienced executive leader, having held executive positions such as COO and VP in operations, continuous improvement, and innovation. His experience includes blue chip companies and startups. He has applied process thinking, technologies, and Lean Six Sigma to diverse industries including,• Biofuels (Darling Ingredients, Maple Leaf Foods, Atlantic Biodiesel)• Batteries (Li-ion, lead-acid, alkaline), organic waste, waste-to-energy (Terrapure Environmental)• CPG, agriculture (Maple Leaf Foods)• Global electronics manufacturing and supply chain (Celestica/IBM)Mike is a pioneer in renewable fuels, having commissioned the first commercial-scale, carbon-negative renewable fuel plant in North America, run entirely on waste feedstocks. He has designed, built, and run renewable fuel operations, implementing novel technologies, improving quality, increasing output, and enhancing financial returns.Related to his innovation work, Mike recently invented a patented technology to support battery and other kinds of recycling. The "LI Detector" (https://youtu.be/P7MErJaRVWA) aids in the separation of lithium-ion batteries from the lead-acid battery recycling process, a substantial safety and operational reliability enhancement for the industry. The technology is equally applicable to other industries where fires caused by lithium-ion batteries is a serious problem, such as municipal recycling and waste disposal. On the side, Mike guest lectures a graduate-level engineering course on biofuels at the University of Toronto, and engages with industry and other technology thought leaders to advance innovation in business.
