My desire is to vastly simplify the entire workflow of modeling and simulation (M&S) by working with both open standards, open source, and cutting edge technologies. I am currently the president and principal researcher at ImagineMade LLC, a company dedicated to making better tools and training available for engineers, scientists, and analysts who do M&S.Prior to founding ImagineMade, I worked over 2.5 years at Big Ladder Software, a small engineering/consulting company focused on improving the state of Building Energy Modeling. At Big Ladder, I developed custom software tools and ran analyses to assess commercial building energy performance. Prior to that, I worked for over 10 years at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) where I helped to develop the ADVISOR advanced vehicle simulator software, lead model development to support commercial truck and heavy hybrid electric vehicle activities, established a research effort to create power electronics reliability models based on experimental data, assessed the economic costs and benefits of advanced vehicle technologies, modeled how driving profiles affect vehicle fuel use and component life, and simulated vehicle/electric grid interactions. The innovative methods used to analyze driving cycle characteristics culminated in a technical paper (see paper below). Working with NREL's power electronics team, we developed a means to computationally assess power electronics cooling options using ANSYS in conjunction with Matlab (see paper below). Later, I worked with a cross-discipline team at NREL to create the "Battery Ownership Model", a tool to evaluate the economics of electrified vehicles and related infrastructure (see paper below). I am currently the lead developer of the ADVISOR advanced vehicle simulator which has been released by NREL as open-source software.

Principal And OwnerImaginemade Llc Sep 2013 - Sep 2016As Dr. Stephen Covey once remarked, "All things are created twice. There's a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation to all things." As the president and principal researcher at ImagineMade, I am focused on bringing new tools and services for Modeling and Simulation to engineers, scientists, and analysts so they can use their first creation (the computer model) to better understand technology, process, and policy decisions before they are actually made. We do this by providing training, consulting, and support around company-developed and community-developed software libraries that embrace simplicity and workflow automation.
