As Secretary of the Management Committee at Metro Community Hub, a Brisbane-based not-for-profit organisation specialising in supporting older people, I work closely with a board of six, alongside the manager and staff, to ensure the smooth running of the organisation. Together, we manage meeting logistics, prepare and distribute agendas, take detailed minutes, and handle follow-up communications. I support the team by ensuring our governance policies and legal requirements are met, and I recently conducted a review and commentary of the Constitution to ensure alignment with best practice.Metro Community Hub's program of activities is dedicated to helping older members maintain their independence, stay involved in the community, and improve their quality of life. Collaboration and clear communication are central to what we do, and I play a key role in facilitating this, supporting the Chair, and contributing to the success of our initiatives that benefit our members and the wider community.

Key responsibilities and achievements include:Strategic Communication and Engagement: Managed the iMIS CRM system for over 28,000 members and 40,000 records, producing detailed analyses to drive targeted engagement. Increased email open rates from 34% to 47%.Platform Management: Managed online platforms (MS Teams, Slack, Yammer, WhatsApp, SharePoint, Discord) to facilitate secure, member-driven communication, reducing inquiry loads on Industrial Officers.Workplace Relations and Advocacy: Assisted members in navigating workplace relations issues, including interpreting and applying their Enterprise Agreement, drafting correspondence such as letters to management, advocating on their behalf in meetings, and mediating disputes to achieve resolutions.Content Creation and Training: Designed key campaign materials and trained staff in design, HTML, SharePoint, data management, CRM operations, and Excel, resulting in higher-quality campaigns with improved reach and professional consistency.Process Optimisation: Delegated routine communications (bulletins, media releases, social media posts, videos, photos) to front-line staff, freeing up significant weekly hours for Organisers and Industrial Officers.Leadership in Industrial Action: Achieved unprecedented “yes” votes (97%-99%) with over 90% turnout across five protected action ballots, demonstrating strong member support and strategic mobilisation.
