I am also independently researching Neural Networks as a tool for data categorization and applications to obtain various variable solutions. A big change in Astrophysics recently is that the abundance of data is somewhat overwhelming, a huge percentage being unanalyzed. Neural Networks are artificially intelligent networks that specialize in the quick and precise categorization of large data sets, such as facial recognition or taking attributes of observed solar systems to pinpoint the ones potentially housing earth-like planets. Ideally this method can reliably sort out types of galaxies, binary systems, process-specific star systems, and bring individuals within these categories of interest to the attention of the researcher.

Collaboration with Troy Sebersen and the Physics Dept at Gustavus Adolphus College to design and create a "Scout" solar panel that will search the sky for optimal positioning and relay this information to a vast solar field of ~120 panels.Research Specifics: I am currently developing a Solar Panel AI program. The mission of this program is to grant the capability for the solar panel to autonomously optimize its panel/sun angle to achieve maximum sun intensity, leading to maximum energy gains. This program is being implemented on a small, “scouting panel”, with the idea that this scout will search out the best angle and dictate this positioning to an array of other solar panels within the solar farm. This project has very strong and urgent real world application as the Gustavus Physics Department has the rights to the 120 solar panels currently in Gustavus’ storage.

In the summer of 2012 I procured an Internship for QinetiQ NorthAmerica at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. I was stationed at Hangar AE, which is a critical hub for data streams coming from unmanned rockets and going out to various stations around the world. While there I started various projects on my own as well as being assigned to a project team lead by Martin Lougheed. This team was dedicated to the acquisition, implementation, and operation of an in house S-Band rocket tracking asset for which I co-authored the safety/deployment/operations manual. Beyond this, I took on the project to program a system that would take the many multi-screen displays around the building and link them to an Extron touch panel controller that would allow for universal control from a single touchscreen device.
