Michael P. Buckley is a Clinical Professor at University of Texas at Arlington and Director for The Center for Metropolitan Density (CfMD), which studies urbanization and focuses on strategic industry clusters, demographic shifts, and high density residential and workplace formats. He also directs the UTA Advanced Design Studio, testing financial feasibility for large-scale mixed-use projects with emphasis on creating sizable tax revenues from which increment financing proceeds can offset infrastructure costs in return for higher densities. Prototype designs are based upon niche market support and include Public /Private Partnering and innovative Capital Stacks for financing.
As President of Halcyon LTD Development Advisors, his consulting experience includes advice to cities, financial institutions & developers for urban mixed-use projects, re-use scenarios for underutilized sites & disposition of surplus assets. Halcyon’s large-scale strategic planning and mixed-use experience includes high-density commercial office/retail/hotel projects in key gateway cities both domestic and international. Buckley is Co-Chair for the Pension Real Estate Association’s Development Affinity Group, former Board Member AIA Dallas, and Co-Chair AIA Community by Design Committee. He served as Chair for Fort Worth's Plan 2023 Educational Commission for strategic cultural and educational initiatives. He is a Fellow of The American Institute of Architects and The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Buckley is the former twenty-year Director of Columbia University’s Masters in Real Estate Development program. He is a founding member of the Real Estate Roundtable's Research Committee, former Board Member of the Assoc. of Foreign Investors in Real Estate and Urban Land Institute Trustee & Program Director. He is on the Advisory Board of Interlink Group, a Caribbean developer of luxury hotels and resorts, as well Deputy Chairman of the Cypress Waters Tax Finance District of Dallas.
