Moved to Baylor College of Medicine as the insurance verification manager after almost 14 years leading the patient access team at CHI St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital. During that time the hospital grew from 84 beds to over 250. In addition, I became responsible for CHI Lakeside and CHI Springwoods Village patient access areas. Hospital results and achievements include:Patient satisfaction scores for registration at the 90th percentile as measured by HealthStream.Successful integration of offsite pre-authorization team, securing an average of over 600 accounts per month.Creation of a patient access career ladder (over 50 employees promoted during my tenure).Upfront collections as a percent of net patient revenue consistently exceeded industry standard.A/R days consistently the lowest in the system.Annual budget of over $2,000,000 routinely met, staff numbered 65.Initiated a marketwide PRN team to alleviate overtime. This team saved the market over 4,000 overtime hours annually.Department quality scores normally the highest in the market.Department acted as the pilot facility for online patient pre-registration.Daily huddle board created to display KPIs--recognized by the CHI National team for huddle board content.At the St. Luke's Ambulatory Care Center we made many improvements in my 5 years there. Some of these included the introduction of document scanning, and new outpatient scheduling and registration systems. Other achievements included:Employee turnover rate reduced to 4% from 10%.50% increase in upfront collections, which was sustained throughout my tenure.Call abandonment rate reduction to 2.5% (3% goal).75% decrease in third party payer denials. I received a President's Award for Team Excellence as a member of the Denial Task Force.At Baylor College of Medicine, I have helped create the insurance verification integrated team, combining Baylor and St. Luke's resources, and I have had oversight of the new copay assistance process.
