Profile bio

About Michael Thielmann

Discovering my innate compassion to journey with people through transition led to a complete career and life-style change in 2010. I returned to school and dove into studies that explore human behaviour, personalizing a process to rewire/recondition unhealthy habits, and discover new methods to mature into a healthier future. After completing a B.S. and M.A., I left the corporate finance world in 2015 so I could apply my skills, knowledge, and gifts in an industry that focuses on social change for the betterment of our people, communities, and employers. For the past 9 years, I have been building employment programs, quantifying human behaviour change, and supervising multiple human-centred systems for at-risk, vulnerable, and newcomer people groups. I've gained immeasurable knowledge from working side-by-side with beautifully diverse individuals, and it has embedded a "We were never meant to succeed alone" foundation, and is a catalyst for my work-ethic.I believe for a healthier future, we must discover the origin of what needs to be changed. This means addressing the reality that some human-centred systems have been created with inequity, biases, and oppression. These are the tough conversations, but if we want our communities, cities, and countries to strengthen and develop, we have to start by enhancing ourselves first.

Listed skills include Training, Customer Service, Marketing, Sales, and 46 others.

Employment Services Supervisor

Current

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Managing and coaching a team of 7 front-line workers has been one of the most rewarding, and professionally developing, roles I have ever taken on. Witnessing my team work with undeserved/at-risk/vulnerable youth/adults and newcomers to Canada is a true example of what succeeding together means. We deliver an employment program that strategizes job readiness growth and development utilizing internal and external partnerships that adapt to the evolving post-pandemic labour market, and address the mental/emotional/physical wellness of clients. Within our organization, we collaborate closely to design and deliver employer specific training, job placements, and job coaching for our clients to achieve and maintain permanent employment. Through a 4-stage process(outreach/intake assessment, employment readiness training, job placement/matching, job coaching), we customize a goal plans that accommodate our annual 400 client target. The technical areas I oversee are the quality and accuracy of case management notes and data collection, program and participant expenditures, tracking of client progress (monthly/quarterly/annual), and constant assessment, and amendments when needed, of our program delivery model to ensure we are meeting our funder and organizational agreements.I am so grateful to be part of a team that has such big hearts for supporting people facing crisis and hardships. The inspiration each staff member exudes, both on my team and others in the organization, is crucial as we still rebuild and evolve post-pandemic.

Apr 2022 - Present

Database Administrator - Salesforce

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Being part of a team that developed, managed and maintained our Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack CRM database system opened up the world of what data looks like within human behaviour change. Being able to translate qualitative information to quantitative data from user-end to data reports was not only fascinating to me, but also recognized the importance to ensure our programming is efficient and effective. I worked closely with senior leadership, department directors, and program managers to process and data map their programs to assess data integrity, identify database improvements, and assess the effectiveness of the data inputted.I developed reports to show the efficacy of the data in efforts to improve program processes, procedures, and data collection, and also to provide funders and donors a more concise description of how our services contribute toward the efforts to end chronic poverty. One of the most enjoyable parts of the job was providing technical support to staff by; modifying and updating objects of the database system that aligns with their program evolvement, database navigational and data entry training, identifying inconsistencies and "waste", and working together to develop solutions. This position was so important for my advancement in my career since "data" has such a high value in the way we understand how our investments of time, resources, and money can provide the best results.

Youth Job Connection (Yjc) Program Coordinator

Toronto, Canada Area

Being selected to develop a new employment program was one of the biggest, and greatest, challenges I have faced in my life. Managing a $300,000 budget to operate and deliver an employment program had me utilize ever single work experience I've gained since my first job at 14 years old cutting grass! I developed, coordinated and maintained a five component employment readiness program for youth (ages 15-29) that consists of; Client Service Planning and Coordination, Resource and Information, Job Search, Job Matching/Placement, and Job Coaching for Employment Retention Carrying out 9 cohorts a year, I delivered employment readiness training addressed the following six areas of development : Career Development/Exploration, Employment, Fundamental Job Readiness Skills, Job Attainment, Job Maintenance/Career Advancement Skills, and Personal Management Skills.I built working partnerships with key employers like Starbucks, Paragon Security, Elite Concierge, Fresh Restaurant, and Chelsea Hotel to create supportive job placements for permanent employment. With many of our participants, it was important to ensure employment stability by integrating wrap-around care supports for some, or all, of the following: mental/dental/medical health, housing, legal/immigration, continued education, community engagement. The utilization of Google Suite, ETO and CaMS database systems to track, analyze and monitor participant's expenditures, and participant progress was instrumental for reporting to our funder and organization. Taking on this role was a deep dive into the industry of social services, and I value ever minute of it. Even the stressful and challenging times. I believe the real-life experience was the best educator for me to understanding of what being a "bridge-builder" between supports/service and people really means.
