At Google, we're working every day to delight our customers with the world's best products. I'm a part of the Ads team, where we're using Google's outstanding search technology to provide useful, relevant and engaging advertising to our customers. This requires a holistic approach and the most state-of-the-art techniques in statistics and machine learning, including design of experiments, linear modeling and time series analysis.

State Farm's statisticians serve the company by consulting with internal business partners to enhance business knowledge and improve decision making. We tackle the most challenging and intractable problems in the business, and our work enhances every facet of our operations. We take on projects that require tools from nearly ever major field within statistics, but especially focuses on:• predictive modeling• time series analysis• big data management• text analytics• experimental designDuring my tenure, I have also put considerable effort toward developing the R community within State Farm. I mentored other young statisticians through State Farm's internship programs, presented on developments in the R language and developed training materials.

MAGNet is a highly selective, intensive internship for future statisticians. During my time in the program, I received extensive training in statistical techniques, model design and data analysis. This took place during the implementation of a series of semester-long projects. These projects included: • building a consumer propensity model from a transaction database with several million rows and a thousand variables.• designing an optimization framework to balance between competing goals in prediction.• researching new methodology for assessing variable importance, deploying a suite of new functions for the program.Each project culminated in a presentation delivered to the entire State Farm statistical community and the production of extensive project documentation.

As an internal researcher, I supported the Department of Planning and Development at KIMEP on a wide array of projects. My responsibilities covered two broad areas: institutional research and managerial accounting. In conducting the former, I created surveys, led focus groups and analyzed preexisting data. This resulted in university-wide program reviews, analysis of the impact of KIMEP's strategy, discussion of the effects of learning environment, insights into why some admitted students do not enroll, as well as multiple short research briefs.I also created an institutional forecasting model for the next four years, linking enrollment to faculty need to financial outcomes. In a separate project, I developed an index to assess the profitability of each faculty member. I have also created models for the costs and revenues of individual programs, and I developed a tool to support a merit-based system of financial aid. I also worked on broader administrative projects. I helped develop the university's application for special status, was the editor of accreditation applications, led the implementation of Google Apps for Education on campus, served in a leading role on the budget committee and wrote institutional policy on a wide range of topics.

I created a new administrative department, setting goals, organizing resources and filling personnel needs. Once the department was fully running, I directed an international team of 8 people, and administered an annual advertising budget of 475,000 US dollars. As Director, I developed a Crisis Communications Policy and resolved several Public Relations crises, and I led a committee to create an institutional marketing and PR strategy that focused on word of mouth. These were instrumental in my ability to plan and manage media coverage of a variety of publicity events.I was also deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of the department. This included writing and/or editing over 150 articles, prefaces and other pieces, publishing them digitally and in print. I created social networking pages for stakeholders, gaining 7,000 contacts in six months. I also created an e-newsletter using Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver that reached more than 7,000 people.

Represented the interests of the President of KIMEP and the institution through building connections and conducting PR.

Developed a stronger English program in a regional pedagogical through materials acquisition, lesson observation, curriculum revision and professional development seminars

Prepared finalists in the Future Leaders Exchange Program for a year of study in America.

Taught basic reading skills to third graders at Dwight Elementary School in New Haven, Connecticut.
