Staff Mechanical Engineering Architect
Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Sr. Mechanical Engineer working on design and analysis of key linear generator systems• Responsible for the engineering design of key subsystems, working with suppliers, and improving reliability.• Engineered cost down improvements that will reduce the system cost by approximately 7%• Took successful ownership of systems including the compressed air system, reaction chamber, electrical boxes, vibration isolation, and unit shipping strategy.• Technical lead on key systems and successfully managed initial design and integration of improvements. This included an update that resulted in a 0.7% improvement in overall system efficiency.• Worked to develop initial manufacturing methods and bring up the pilot factory. This involved developing novel alignment methods and helping design the most efficient layout.• Work has led to significant cost reduction, efficiency gains, and reliability improvements.
Post Doctoral Associate
Worked with corporate partners in order to commercialize PhD research on a manifold system that enables the turbocharging of single-cylinder engines through licensing.
Mechanical Engineering Phd Candidate (Global Engineering And Research Laboratory)
My research was on a novel method forturbocharging single-cylinder four-stroke internal combustion engines to create a cleaner, more compact, fuel efficient and lower cost power source for small-scale farmers in India. Turbocharging uses energy from an engine’s exhaust to compress the intake air, this allows the engine to combust more fuel. Due to the pulsating nature of flow this technology is not currently used in single cylinder engines. I have built a new style of manifold that buffers the air flow. I have validated this method through both experiments and computational models.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Over the last three years I volunteered to be the TA and mentor for Global Engineering (since I have an NSF fellowship it was completely optional) and a group for the class. This is a new class upper level undergrad/grad class created by Professor Winter. The goal of this class is a new project class designed to teach students how to apply rigorous engineering theory to address global design problems. As the TA I helped shape the curriculum of the class, assisted students with their design, helped students fabricate their projects, created special teaching activities, and ran these activities. As a mentor I work one on one with a six person project group assisting them with any issues that they have, providing them with feedback, and holding design reviews.
President
I started working on maker workshop with a couple of friends in 2014 when it was still an idea. I was a founder, Safety Officer, Vice President, and the current President of MIT Maker Workshop. This is a student run maker space dedicated to teaching, giving guidance, and providing access to the tools needed to successfully complete projects for entrepreneurship, research, classes, and fun.As president I oversaw a staff of sixty volunteers, make sure the space is operating safely, and ensurer that the space is sustainable so the next generation of students can continue to enjoy the benefits of an open access maker space.
Intern
As an intern at Infinium Metals I built a condenser system for metal vapor. I designed a condenser that utilized a series of channels that cooled the metal down to the appropriate temperature. The condenser featured unique molten copper heat pipes that pulled the heat from the inside of the condenser to the surface of the condenser. I also created a system to remove the liquid metal from the condenser and cast the metal into ingots. I used the tube that ran from the condenser to a specially designed chamber.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (Thermal-Fluids Engineering Ii)
I was offered a unique opportunity to be the first undergraduate TA for Thermal-Fluids Engineering II. I was the first undergraduate student to TA this class. My responsibilities included managing a team of graders, reviewing tests and problem sets, writing answer keys, and holding office hours for 10-20 students.
