My first hotel job was an AGM. My then dual property GM said "Mike take this other Hotel Manager position. It'll be good for you." I did and it was.My second hotel job was the Hotel Manager. That same GM moved on and later called and said "Mike take this Director of Housekeeping role that I have. It'll be good for you." I did and it absolutely was.My third hotel job was the Director of Housekeeping. Come 2020 (and it's many furloughs) that same GM introduced me to another hotel - what we refer to as a beast of a property and said "Mike call Greg and help him out for a month or two. It'll be good for you." I did and again, it was." My fourth hotel job was a Task Force Hotel Manager. That GM said "Mike I think you should go to Arizona for this management company transition. It'll be good for you." I did. Well his SVP calls and says "Mike, it's time to make you permanent." I returned to California after several weeks and that GM says "Mike take the Director of Front Office role. It'll be good for you." I did and it was. I learned to tame this very strong union-property Front Office.Hilton called again. This time it was to be on the opening of a new full-service property. Together that GM and I built a new Team.See the pattern? Loyalty, gratefulness and mentorship. That is what I work so hard to impart on others. Elementary, yes?You want to know what else I have learned? You have to Love your staff. You do. Here are my 3 keys to successfully working with my Teams: 1. Leadership based on likability and empathy which in turn emphasizes staff loyalty and limits turnover 2. Paying attention to what our Associates are saying3. Emphasis on training / cross-training to maintain high productivity, efficiency and development, myself included.It's time for my loyalty to take me to the next level. I got this. Thank you.
