About Michael Sarill

I have 15+ years of experience conceiving, managing and launching complex websites and web applications. My background encompasses product development, technical project management, functional specifications, wireframes, certain aspects of the front-end, development workflows, testing, and production launch. Primary technical skills include Drupal Configurations, Drupal Site Building and many aspects of Drupal Front-End - in addition to HTML, CSS, Git, the command line and SEO. I currently work full time for the National Kidney Foundation. On the personal side, I have a deep passion for wildlife and biodiversity conservation. I combine my technical web background with this passion through leading Project Noah. This web platform is a wildlife community for nature enthusiasts to discover, share and identify wildlife. I also wrote and built an online Nature School and led the creation of Baboon, a dynamic mobile wildlife game.

Michael Sarill Work Experience Details
  • National Kidney Foundation
    Web Manager
National Kidney Foundation Sep 2021 - Present
New York, New York, United States
Manage a wide variety of digital web initiatives across the National Kidney Foundation. Daily responsibilities include completing a high volume of custom cross-department web requests. Requests range from creating new custom landing pages to complete content refreshes, site building, user management, analytics reports and more. Beyond web support requests, I also work closely with our Senior Web Designer to build and launch newly designed key landing pages. Built a custom-designed right-hand-sidebar, that includes a 5 star ratings widget that immediately drew high engagement and usage from our visitors, while introducing a new and important web engagement metric. Finally, I created a solution to enable Spanish translations across key content categories based on Drupal site building best practices.Led initiative to empower field staff across the organization to keep up-to-date field office webpages - through a comprehensive redesign and rebuilding of office webpages using Drupal components instead of HTML. This initiative enabled 25+ local offices to more effectively update webpages in real-time to coordinate with local marketing initiatives, while also significantly improving productivity across the web team.Led the organization of a site-wide Taxonomy that applies across kidney.org's primary content types. The final deliverable involved the creation of a complex Google Sheet that maps the new taxonomies to all of NKF's web content. This inter-department initiative required interfacing with departments across the organization, working with a taxonomy expert vendor and developing a deep understanding of NKF's web content models and sitemap.
