Profile bio

About Michael Sauvante

With 45+ years of experience in new venture creation, I have long been a progressive thinker in the field of sustainability, corporate responsibility, and local economic development. My name is Michael Sauvante and I am the Managing Director of Sustainable Communities Corporation (SCC), a 501(c)(4) non-profit regional economic development organization. SCC is an outgrowth of research and development work done at National Commonwealth Group, Inc. (NCG), a 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank, where I was the Managing Director & Chief Architect of the Sustainable Communities Framework (SCF). NCG and the SCF focused on the needs of small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) and their role in contributing to the economic health and vitality to local communities and the creation of socially responsible alternatives to conventional business. NCG's research included in-depth explorations of public banking and banking law; securities laws, capital formation, public markets for SMEs and common investment vehicles; and most recently alternative currencies and universal basic income.I was also the Exec. Dir. at Commonwealth Group LLC, a business development company that provided impact investment guidance and facilitated the flow of capital and credit to increase the liquidity of investments in small and mid-sized businesses.Since discovering my passion for business, I have founded more than a half dozen companies ranging from construction, to software development, to IT consulting. In 1998, I founded Rolltronics, VoltaFlex, and InnoSigns, to leverage the new “roll-to-roll” manufacturing methodology for the electronic, battery, and advertising industries. I later co-founded Seertech Corporation to consolidate these companies and provide a platform for growing new ventures. My background provides me with a top-of-the line education in what it entails to start new ventures in unexplored markets. With a desire to share this knowledge with other entrepreneurs, I joined National Commonwealth Group in 2008 & Commonwealth Group in 2013 to create unique ways to nurture small businesses by promoting triple bottom line approaches to business, financial markets, and economic development. more at https://scf.green/ms

Managing Director & Chief Architect

In 2013, I joined Commonwealth Group serving as the organization’s Managing Director and Chief Architect. Commonwealth Group LLC was a management and consultancy firm that owned and operated three businesses: 1) Family Office Impact Investing – “FOII” was a website & consultancy dedicated to "all things impact investing" for family offices, 2) Commonwealth Capital – “CC” was a small business holding company (SBHC) that served as the acquirer of small and medium private companies and 3) Syndications Associates – “SA” was a syndicator that aggregated smaller private companies under a holding company.FOII fosterd impact investing by entities such as family offices, endowments, foundations, pension funds that were in a position to dramatically accelerate the flow of funds into impact investments. That includes those that can put a "very large thumb" on the scale of impact investing. That in turn would help the impact investment for the benefit of all. CC was a benefit corporation intended to be a public company providing liquidity and support resources to private companies and their owners and to foster the creation of other such public small business holding companies. At the appropriate time CC planned to become a public company, one of the first public benefit corporations in the country. SA specialized in aggregating a number of smaller companies under a common private company holding company umbrella, with the objective of increasing the value of the individual companies by virtue of the aggregate value of their whole enterprise. Thereafter the whole enterprise could go public or be sold to a buyer who might keep that enterprise private, or the buyer may be a public company, resulting in the enterprise being part of a larger public company.

Executive Director & Program Developer

National Commonwealth Group, Inc.

As the Executive Director & Program Developer at National Commonwealth Group I help to motivate, direct, and lead the organization, as well as lay it’s foundation for expansion. National Commonwealth Group promoted triple bottom line (social, environmental, and economic) approaches to business, banking, financial markets, and economic development. Since money is at the heart of our economic systems, its programs related to money and the institutions that manage and direct money such as Valuation & Trading, Banking & Funding, as well as Corporate Structures. In furtherance of the above goals, in May of 2018 I became an Honorary Research Fellow with the Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research (CEEDR) with London based Middlesex University.
