Smithfield Hog Production is the live production arm of Smithfield Foods, and Smithfield Premium Genetics (SPG) is its genetic development division. SPG produces the genetic future for the company’s production herd of more than 1.2 million sows in 14 states and Mexico. • Developed consistent Talent Acquisition strategy to leverage regional contacts for company-wide needs in challenging production roles that are difficult to fill.• Standardized regional salary structures to support career pathing through increased production responsibilities and opening doors for progression into support areas.• Created management development programs for progression through a management career, from entry through senior, with succession planning and high-potential identification.

Managed the Human Resource function for more than 70 locations in four states. Carroll’s Foods was purchased by Smithfield in 2000, giving M&A and change management experience. Responsible for Safety and Workers’ Compensation defense, Training and Development, Staffing, Payroll, General Compliance with Federal and State regulation including DOT, and Employee Relations activities. Additional responsibilities include divisional ISO 14001 Compliance and International Recruiting for the entire corporation. Notable accomplishments include:• Wrote corporate employee handbook and policy manual in use by all facilities.• Eliminated use of outside recruiting firms in my locations for more than 3 years by developing a solid management training program and succession planning system.• Brought employee turnover in production areas from 100%+ upon arrival to consistent 30% for last 4 years with improved employee selection, management training, and communication.• United $2,000,000+ annual bonus payments with critical performance measures and strategic business objectives, and effectively communicated plan to all employees.• Successfully averted organization campaign of drivers by Teamsters Union.

Poultry plant operation with 1800 employees, including milling, hatchery, and full OTR trucking fleet. Responsible for negotiations with 2 unions and management of cafeteria and nursing staff as well.

Responsible for Public Relations throughout XVIII Airborne community in US Army, with extended deployments in Europe, South America, Middle East. Placed numerous print and photography products in external publications and regularly produced for internal military news outlets.
