I write reviews and features on dance and physical culture for The Irish Times. I'm also the Irish correspondent for the European-wide Tanz magazine and a contributor to other specialised publications such as Dance Theatre Journal, Dance Europe, and the US-based Dance Magazine. In 2004 I was the only international critic to receive a New York Times/National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship to attend the Institute for Dance Criticism at the American Dance Festival in Duke University. In 2006 I returned to teach at the Institute and was Scholar-in-residence at the Bates College Dance Festival in Maine.

As a staff member of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra I have worked with a range of international soloists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Kiri Te Kanawa. In addition I have performed and broadcast many concertos from Mozart to Artie Shaw.

I write news and feature articles in newspapers, magazines, journals and encyclopedias - everything from Irish Brides to Irish Theatre Magazine.

During my freelance career I have worked with artists from Montserrat Caballé to Burt Bacharach and Rod Stewart. I've also a broad interest in contemporary music and have performed Irish premieres of solo works by Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Gavin Bryars. I'm a co-founder of the contemporary music group Crash Ensemble. Oh, and I once sang backing vocals for Foreigner.
