I led our 150+ person Engineering and IT organizations at The RealReal. We tackled some exciting problems in the sustainable fashion space, such as using machine learning technology to authenticate consigned items as genuine, simplify consignment logistics, personalize recommendations, optimizing pricing, and much more! Our IT team also supports 3 large authentication centers and 15 retail stores. We had the usual challenges of e-commerce, but also a complex reverse logistics portion of the business with our consignment model.

I led the engineering organization at Goodreads, working on exciting projects to help book lovers find their next great book, share their reading experiences with friends, and engage with their favorite authors and influencers. Goodreads continues to grow fast, and as an Amazon subsidiary also has the backing of the world's biggest book seller.Key wins from this role include reducing the number of production incidents by 65%, rebuilding the management team, centralizing our team from split locations to San Francisco, upgrading key pieces of our technology stack, and more!

As President of Kidaptive Asia I was directly responsible for the ongoing operation, product development, marketing, and P&L of Hodoo English, our English-teaching MMO. Over the course of a year I led the business unit from significant unprofitability to profit, culminating in a successful sale of the business unit to private equity. I traveled to South Korea frequently to work with the teams directly and managed efforts remotely the rest of the time. Key accomplishments include sourcing and executing on a publishing arrangement which launched Hodoo into the Japanese market, as well as launching Hodoo in the Chinese market. As CTO of Kidaptive overall I remained heavily involved in the development of this product, and also managed technical staff in the US building our Adaptive Learning Platform for early education.

I oversaw the engineering and technology efforts at Kidaptive, in Mountain View and with our Korean office. Key accomplishments from this time include a comprehensive overhaul of Kidaptive's application security model, significant cost reductions and stability improvements to our Adaptive Learning Platform, the launch of Hodoo English direct to consumer in Korea, leading hiring efforts for a sizable staff augmentation in the US, and the transition of Hodoo English from it's previous home at NCSoft data centers to the AWS cloud.

I oversaw the development of all games in our Strategy studio, including backend tech, iOS, Android, and Unity. I also managed the development of several pieces of key backend infrastructure company-wide, such as our async processing systems and core PHP and Go frameworks. I was responsible for about 40 engineers.Some key wins from this time period included building out infrastructure for European deployment and going from a single data center to multi data center strategy as part of the rollout. I also helped with the migration of key services to DynamoDB.

I lead our RPG studio's server group, and manage engineering teams working on several top GREE games and core technologies. I ensure scalability, security, solid design, efficient process, mentor engineering leaders and individual engineers, and coordinate across many departments to ensure our titles remain top hits! I'm always searching for improvements, and recently completed a project which improved the efficiency of our main PHP stack by around 4x through implementing HHVM, allowing GREE to decommission a few hundred servers in the process.

I manage engineering teams working on several top GREE games. This includes Android and iOS development, a variety of server environments like Node.JS and PHP, and coordination with the business side needed to make these titles hits! In addition to game-level tasks I'm also responsible for key parts of GREE's game server platform and driving our game engines to the next level.Other accomplishments include the design and development of core technology used by many games around the studio such as marketing and analytics SDKs, various server-side services, significant hiring responsibilities, and management of second-party development relationships.

I created the Game Integration department at GREE, and helped launch of our first titles from the San Francisco studio! I built and maintained relationships with many of our partner developers while providing technical leadership and core service development through our team at GREE.

I was a core team member for the initial creation and several updates of Adobe's Social Analytics product, which allows companies to tie key business metrics to activity on social networks. I built highly scalable systems to deal with the massive amounts of data flowing through the system on a daily basis, provided insight and experience with the social web, and managed our relationship with Facebook and other networks. A notable highlight was the 2011 VMA awards - systems I designed were able to process 33k tweets per minute (10% of twitter's total) with minimal latency.

As co-founder and CEO I ran Metaspace Studios - a small startup formed to create cutting edge social games. Over our lifetime we released a social strategy game called Fleets, as well as a successful social gaming engine powering several games similar in style to Mafia Wars. I acted as CEO, CTO, and wore many other hats throughout the existence of our small company.Metaspace achieved profitability, but after seeing limited growth prospects we sold off some assets when an opportunity presented itself and moved on.

Primary developer for our e-commerce website, created from the ground up. Also developed internal productivity and order fulfillment software powering huge portions of the company's day-to-day operations.The current version of http://sewelldirect.com still uses significant pieces of my work from this time.

Developer for the uBuilder 2.0, a website-building and hosting application. Also developed the uGateway, a realtime credit processing gateway.
