About Michael Shick
Backend-focused generalist with a passion for software organization, interfaces, and languages: It is my goal to pursue interfaces that are not only easy to use, but hard to accidentally misuse.I have over seven years industry SWE experience and two years of academic research support. I'm most at home in C++ or Ruby, but have significant experience in Python, Go, and Java. Learning new languages, even without developing significant software in them, has given me a breadth of perspective that brings benefits to everything I write. Haskell and Rust are chief among these studies.I have also run a home Debian server for over a decade. In particular I love the power and simplicity of CGI scripting, which has led me to write my own personal pastebin, a YAML-based mini language for making quick and clean personal pages, a paper claim-ticket system for subjects of my wandering photography, and others.
