Profile bio

About Michael Steckler

I work at the intersection of cybersecurity, AI, policy, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC). I currently support owners of Azure-based apps, services, and subscriptions drive compliance as part of Microsoft's Secure Future Initiative. My areas of focus include global privacy regulations, GDPR, DDoS, 5G, NERC-CIP, NIST, CMMC, IoT, and data privacy.I have also had the pleasure to consult think tanks and trade associations on a range of technical and policy projects. At Deloitte, I developed threat analytics for DevSecOps teams and built ML/AI-based solutions for organizations to manage their enterprise cybersecurity programs. In my past experience with USTelecom, I contributed to cybersecurity thought leadership. At the Institute for Security and Technology, I used GCP's AutoML to machine translate technical cybersecurity documents and managed the project's IDAM. Before this, I helped the City of SF's CISO implement NIST Cybersecurity Framework requirements throughout SF’s 54 departments. I have also collaborated with the Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity, the Mozilla Corporation, and Tactical Tech to educate the public on data and digital privacy. I’m a proud product of public education systems, and an alumnus of the inaugural class of UC Berkeley's Masters in Information and Data Science program and GlobalEdge: London program. I hold an Economics B.A. with a minor in Public Policy and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Technology from the University of California, Berkeley. While pursuing both of my degrees, I have presided on the Cal Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, taught Microeconomics with Professors Maximilian Auffhammer and Daniel Acland, and have served as a Program Manager with the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology. I like to think I'm an exemplar Mamba Mentality practitioner. Go Lakers!
