President & CeoOn-Q-Ity, Inc. Nov 2011 - Nov 2012On-Q-ity was a life sciences company focusing its novel technologies and platforms on circulating tumor cell (CTC) capture and characterization. It was developing products and services for clinical researchers and physicians to enhance decision-making across multiple cancer types, with goals of increasing the success of oncology drug development, improving patient treatment outcomes and increasing survival rates. I initially provided consulting/advisory services to Board and interim President/CSO to develop and fund a strategic plan for the business. I assisted in raising $5M of operating capital and accepted the President & CEO role, assuming responsibilities for selling the company in 2012, while maintaining employee morale, expanding clinical studies and exploring new product indications. We immediately repositioned our business strategy away from a technology platform focus to development of novel clinical products and services to aid oncologists in making treatment decisions, ultimately accumulating data on nearly 200 patients across four significant tumor types throughout the year. In spring of 2012 we initiated an investment banking process and evaluation of corporate strategic partnering opportunities. The investment banking process and strategic discussions with over 20 potential buyers and partners led to determination that the market for CTC platforms has yet to mature, the value-added reimbursement for testing services is uncertain and significant additional investment was required to potentially achieve break-even with minimal return on investment. I advised the investors to pursue an auction process and worked with them to assure a successful outcome while avoiding additional capital outlays. Once that option was approved, we orchestrated plans for orderly company wind-down, including timely communication with employees, partners and investors; provided transition support for employees and turned the company over to wind-down firm.
