Pursuing his passion to make things better than they were yesterday, he identifies the problems no one else sees or is willing to admit to and willingly “gets his hands dirty” to solve the problems no one else can.Due to the continued occurrence of individual injuries & fatalities as well as large-scale industrial incidents, he collaborates and co-authors papers with Operational Excellence & Safety Culture Experts to promote a real and lasting cultural shift in the Process Industries to help make ZERO Incidents a reality.He utilizes broad and versatile technical expertise and a collaborative & mentoring management style with geographically and culturally diverse teams to identify root causes and develop cost-effective solutions for complex socio-technical issues. He effectively communicates with management, colleagues and subordinates and he networks and collaborates with multiple industrial and academic experts and organizations. He also (co)authors numerous academic and industrial papers and presentations addressing the topics of robust process & controls design, operational excellence & reliability and safety culture development.His process design experience includes P&ID development, heat, material & pressure balances, hydraulics, steady state & dynamic process modeling and equipment evaluation and trouble-shooting. He has advanced expertise in advanced regulatory controls, including sequence/batch and model-predictive control (APC/MPC). He holds a Private Pilot’s license and integrates his knowledge of aviation automation, operations and safety with his professional expertise.He develops educational presentations to address the inter-dependent and practical aspects of process, equipment and controls design (for batch & continuous processes), safety systems design & integration, alarm rationalization & management and operator-interface design. He is a regular contributor to Greg McMillan’s “Ask the Automation Pros Q&A” blog (https://blog.isa.org/tag/ask-the-automation-pros) and is a co-author of the book “A Real-Time Approach to Distillation Process Control” (Wiley, February 2023).
