Michael is the retired principle of a communication, government relations and stakeholder engagement firm in Vancouver. He was the Director of Communication for the Minister of Justice and Canada’s Attorney General. Michael has a history as a community social impact leader. In 2021, his priority focus on climate action led him to launch Governance for Our Kids Climate.He has volunteered on non-profit boards since 1996, holding a variety of positions including president, finance chair, governance chair and a contracted executive director.Michael has been doing governance training for boards since 1999, first with Volunteer Vancouver, then as a consultant facilitating strategic planning sessions and as a knowledge philanthropist for VantagePoint. He has worked in multiple sectors and organisations including a maritime museum, a social service agency, a pan-provincial umbrella organisation of social service agencies, a political party, a seniors housing association, a harm reduction society in Vancouver’s DTES, and a refugee resettlement charity. Michael provided research assistance regarding our energy transition to a low-carbon economy at the Behaviour Energy Environment Research Lab at Royal Roads University.In his early working life, Michael worked on tow-boats, drove taxi and a city bus and shuttled rental planes about (he has a commercial pilot’s license.)Michael is an avid political campaigner and has worked on or managed campaigns at all three levels of government. Federal: Campaign Manager for constituency campaign, Nomination Campaign Manager, Communications for constituency campaign. Provincial: Draft party’s core narrative and Leader’s debate prep, Campaign Manager for constituency campaign, Campaign Manager for nomination campaign. Municipal: Campaign Manager for re-election to Vancouver City Council, Communications for two mayoral campaigns. His current volunteer positions include: Founder OurKidsClimate.ca, Vice Chair of the board, Chair of HR Committee and Governance Committee at VantagePoint, mentor of a Circle at Rainbow Refugee.Michael holds a Master of Arts, Professional Communications from Royal Roads University.In his spare time, Michael explores the back roads of BC—and foreign lands—on an adventure motorcycle.
