About Michael Thuis

Passionate about driving positive change in the energy sector. I am a Ph.D. Candidate and Advanced Energy Group Fellow with a focus on sustainable transportation solutions, grid modernization, and energy justice.🎓 Academic Background: Currently pursuing my Ph.D. in electrochemical materials within the Haile Group; I specialize in developing solid-state sodium-ion battery materials to mitigate raw material demand issues in energy storage technologies. Alongside my research, I actively contribute to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue as the lead of the Climate Tech Club discussion group, engaging students from various disciplines in exploring energy and climate-related topics.💼 Current Endeavors: Beyond academia, I serve as an Advanced Energy Group Fellow, overseeing initiatives in grid modernization and clean transportation. I am also an entrepreneur, having founded Thuis Energy Conuslting LLC aimed at scaling impactful energy solutions focused on combining new technologies/approaches with energy justice. Our projects range from providing technical support for grid battery storage companies to supporting grant applications for sustainable transportation programs like the Clean Ports Program. Within the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), I am proud to serve as the PCSA Council Chair leading a group of 36 student leaders to push the future of the science profession. 🔬 Prior Experience: My experience in esteemed national laboratories such as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has provided me with a strong foundation in my current energy research. Notably, my work in the PV Reliability and Systems group involved validating materials to enhance the lifespan of solar panels, contributing to the advancement of renewable energy technologies.Let's connect to collaborate on innovative solutions for a sustainable energy future!
