My research includes clinical, GMP method development, product design, as well as applying chemical ecology of medicinal plants, identification of clinically relevant compounds and characterization matrix effects and solubility on extract methods.Under my leadership the herb program at MUIH has grown to two MS programs – Clinical Herbalism, focused on clinical practitioners, as well as Herbal Product Design and Manufacturing. Enrollment was substantially increased, And both educational and production aspects of our gardens and herbal dispensary have been expanded, including an overhaul of GMP efforts in the dispensary to be compliant with FDA regulations for manufacturers. Additionally, I developed program assessment strategies to ensure that student outcomes are being met.In delivering coursework, I have developed and taught course work in:1. Herbal Medicine: Phytochemistry, Pharmacology, Herbal Materia Medica, Safety, Therapeutics, Analytical Method Development, Extraction Studies, Quality Assurance and Product Development.2. Awarded fellowship to use plant and herbal expertise to develop botanical Standard Reference Material (SRM) used in herbal supplement research. • Completed SRM development and certification measurements of Green Tea analytes using novel enzymatic extraction.• Developed analytical methods for SRMs of soy, kudzu, red clover containing analytes used in anti-cancer and estrogen replacement research.• Collaborated with private and government laboratories for independent SRM measurements.
