You can expect results after the first session with Michael. In conversation together your goals for counselling will emerge and Michael will design a treatment plan in support of those goals.Following each subsequent session you will also receive a personal therapeutic letter written to you by Michael, honouring your progress. This letter serves as your clinical case note. Michael specializes in complex trauma, PTSD, mood disorders, co-occurring disorders and complex relational problems existing between couples. He has worked extensively in these areas over the last 15 years and maintains ongoing training and development to stay flexible and proficient in his treatment. Michael recognizes that the person is not the problem; the problem is the problem. He takes a comprehensive non-pathologizing approach to therapy and again and again clients comment on the helpfulness of their conversations with Michael and the increased freedom and joy they are now experiencing in their lives. Michael has written and published a textbook and accompanying workbook on a "Non-Pathologizing Approach To Counselling" (available through Amazon), which he has been providing specialized training and supervision on since 2023. He has professionally counselled since 2009, concurrent for ten years as an executive for a Regina non-profit organization and as a consultant for non-profits. In 2019, Michael returned home to the Okanagan and began private practice exclusively in 2020. In 2023 Michael began to teach Masters level courses at the University of Guelph. To date he has designed and taught the following courses: "Family Therapy and Mental Health", "Ethics", and "Advanced Couples Therapy". Michael is Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor (RMFT-S) with CACFT (The Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy), a Certified Professional Counsellor Supervisor (CPCS) with PACCP (Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists), a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Canadian Clinical Supervisor (CCC, CCS) with CCPA (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association), and a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervsior (RCC-ACS) with BCACC (British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors).
