Michael van der Meide (Hellevoetsluis, 3rd of January 1973 )At seventeen Michael started to study fashion at the Tailoring School in The Hague. Specialising in mens tailoring graduated in 1994 with a collection on the French Revolution called Peacock people…Michael graduates from Charles Montaigne (AMFI) in Amsterdam in 1998. Michael had workplacements at Vivienne Westwood, Hussein Chalayan, Frank Govers Haute Couture, Panc Vergouw Couture, Frans Molenaar Couture, Aziz Bekkaoui and Caroline Suits. Just after his graduation in 1999 Michael is invited by Barclay Catwalk Zurich to show his collection Through the looking glass… inspired by women of the red light district in Amsterdam going reviving the twenties for the silhouette and embellishments. He starts to work for Lifestyle and Conceptstore DOM by Kristian Koban till 2001 and high end designerboutique PRAGUE by Louis Dijksman in Rotterdam for which he both works as a salesman and windowdresser till end of 2003. In 2002/2003 he did production & design for Caroline (Sky dive) Suits Rotterdam. In 2001 and 2003 Michael was nominated for the Frans Molenaar Couture Prize in Amsterdam.MICHAEL VAN DER MEIDE established his label in Rotterdam the 1st. of January 2004. Michaels first couture collection Just three more miles to go…launched at the famous Hyeres Festival may 2004. A poetic collection of vintage draped parachute dresses which transform by wind. Won Michael two international design awards the Henri Bendel Award (New York) and Punto Seta Award (Como) that helped him to establish his label. Due to these awards Michael was able to invest €6.500,= in his label by Henri Bendel which was one of New York’s finest Luxury Department Stores on Fifth Avenue and many design collaborations with the amazing team at Puntoseta one of Italy's finest textile manufacturers that resulted in Michael’s photographic kaleidoscopic elements of nature collections reproduced and copied by big players in the fashionworld. Michael is a poet of light and dark inspired by nature and life itself... He loves tailoring, lightness, fluidity and transformation.
