As a dedicated Student-Athlete at Stellenbosch University, I have the privilege of representing our university and the athletic community in various capacities.During my Bachelor of Science in Performance Sport Honors (Jan 2023 - Dec 2024), I continued as a member of the Maties Swimming High-Performance Squad. This role not only honed my athletic skills but also instilled in me a deep sense of teamwork and perseverance. Concurrently, I served as the USSA Student Representative, advocating for the needs and interests of student-athletes on a national level. This experience allowed me to participate in crucial discussions and decision-making processes that shaped university-level swimming in South Africa.Transitioning from my Bachelor of Arts in Sport Science & Psychology (Jan 2020 - Dec 2022) to the Performance Sport Honors program, my commitment to athletics and leadership remained unwavering. I proudly served as the Maties Vice Club Captain, supporting team cohesion and spirit both on and off the pool deck. Additionally, within the Maties Sport Swimming Committee, I took on the role of Head of Marketing & Media, where I utilized my skills to highlight the achievements and stories of our athletes.As a Student-Athlete, I balanced rigorous training schedules with academic responsibilities, understanding the importance of time management and dedication. By prioritizing their psychological, physical, and spiritual states, I fostered a supportive atmosphere where passion met purpose. Leading a dedicated team, I organized events, mentorship programs, and activities that encouraged personal growth, teamwork, and a strong community spirit.In addition to my role in student-athlete development, I played a pivotal role in re-establishing our residence's brand within the wider SU community. Collaborating closely with corporate branding and merchandise teams, I crafted an identity that personified our residence's WHY. By ensuring our brand resonated with our purpose and embodied our spirit, I increased visibility and recognition through merchandise and promotional materials.Simultaneously, I emphasized the re-connection to our residence's culture among student-athletes. Through targeted communication and engagement strategies, I fostered a sense of pride and belonging, reigniting their enthusiasm and commitment.Collaborating with students, staff, coaches, and alumni, I established a robust support network that facilitated growth and opportunity. Additionally, I oversaw residence operations, managing budgets, room assignments, and ensuring compliance with university policies.By curating an environment for holistic development, re-establishing our residence's brand, and fostering cultural buy-in among student-athletes, I created an environment where our WHY thrived, enabling comprehensive growth and development.

As a former House Committee member at Huis Neethling, the Maties Sport High Performance Residence, I contributed to curating a culture focused on our residence's WHY. Within the portfolios of marketing, merchandise, and media, I played a vital role in fostering a community aligned with our purpose and values.In the marketing portfolio, I developed and executed strategies to increase awareness and engagement among the student community. Through targeted campaigns, social media management, and creative content creation, I effectively communicated our residence's unique identity and mission.Within the merchandise portfolio, I collaborated with vendors, designed merchandise items, and managed inventory to create tangible representations of our residence's culture. By curating a selection of merchandise that reflected our WHY, I instilled a sense of pride and unity among residents.In the media role, I utilized various channels such as photography, videography, and writing to capture and share the stories and achievements of our resident athletes. By showcasing their successes and experiences, I contributed to building a strong community spirit and promoting our core values.Through my involvement in marketing, merchandise, and media, I worked closely with the House Committee team to establish a cohesive and impactful presence for Huis Neethling. Together, we created an environment where our WHY thrived, fostering personal growth, teamwork, and a sense of belonging among student-athletes.

As a USSA Student Representative, my role encompassed two important aspects. Firstly, I served as a representative for all student-athletes involved in swimming on a national level. I attended USSA Aquatic Annual General Meetings (AGMs) as a voice for the athletes, actively participated in discussions and decision-making processes that directly impacted their interests and welfare.Secondly, as a representative of the University of Stellenbosch, I had the privilege of sitting in on both National AGMs & SGMs and participating in annual conferences. In this capacity, I engaged in conversations and initiatives that were relevant to student-athletes across various sporting codes, ensuring that the perspectives and concerns of our university's athletes were well-represented.In both roles, I actively collaborated with coaches, administrators, and fellow student-athletes to address issues, advocated for positive change, and contributed to the ongoing development of policies and programs within the realm of South African University sport. By actively engaging in these national forums, I strived to create an inclusive and supportive environment that benefited student-athletes nationwide.As a USSA Student Representative for the University of Stellenbosch, I was committed to serving as a strong advocate for student-athletes in swimming, both at the national level and within our university community.
