Roy Hill AHS project is the largest OEM-independent autonomous truck deployment in the world and is currently undertaking production verification before the solution is extended across a mixed-fleet of 78 haul trucks at the company’s 60Mtpa Pilbara mine. A key facet of the AHS deployment at Roy Hill is the development of a solution that embraces open architecture, creating an environment that enables input from multiple vendors. Advancing and implementing a truly interoperable platform where systems can interface with each other without the need for large scale and/or costly bespoke development will be a core focus of the role. With Western Australia home to a world-class mining industry and a significant concentration of autonomous equipment, Roy Hill is pursuing an open and transparent dialogue with other miners, automation specialists and industry participants in the development of an agreed set of standards backed-up by rigorous testing and use cases. The adoption of an interoperable platform has wide ranging benefits, inclusive of reduced costs and barriers to entry from increased competition, quicker development, and continuous improvement in the autonomy space. This, coupled with the proven safety and productivity advantages of automation, highlights the outstanding opportunity that awaits as an interoperable autonomous future is further explored and realised.
