As a law professor, I teach and write about intellectual property law and cyberlaw. Prior to entering the academy, I served as a law clerk to Judge Judith W. Rogers, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and Judge Joyce Hens Green, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. I practiced law at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C. and am a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Chicago.My research focuses on the search for balance in intellectual property law over time in the face of challenges posed by new technologies. Acting on this interest, I'm one of the founding members of Creative Commons, Inc., a global organization that provides free, standardized copyright licenses to enable and to encourage legal sharing of creative and other copyrighted works. I also serve on the sub-group of Board Members who advise the organization in connection with its science and education related initiatives.I'm also an active advocate for open access over the Internet to the research that appears in scholarly and scientific journals. I have written white papers and have given numerous presentations to university faculty, administrators, and staff on this issue.
