Senior High Performance Computing Specialist
In my role as a Senior High Performance Computing (HPC) specialist I endeavor to support computational research initiatives across New York University (NYU), both managing our local HPC clusters and working with faculty and researchers on cloud based research initiatives. For HPC operations, I provide code troubleshooting, containerized software management via Singularity, and writing scripts to automate aspects of account management. I support a diverse set of initiatives leveraging both the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). I provision and provide technical support for GCP research projects, including Google Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Kubernetes Engine (GKE), BigQuery, and Google App Engine. I also maintain and iterate on the Research Technology group’s JupyterHub service, built using GKE. I lead tasks within the Secure Research Data Environments (SRDE) project, including conducting a NIST 800-171 assessment of the SRDE architecture as well as drafting policies and user agreements for the service.
Senior Research Systems Engineer
My team and I designed, developed, implemented, and operated Columbia University Information Technology's Research Computing Services. These included three High Performance Computing Clusters (HPC), Secure Data Enclave, Cloud Computing Consultation, Academic JupyterHub Instances in the Google Cloud Platform, and other various computational initiatives. I collaborated across CUIT technical teams and Columbia researchers in various departments to support both on-premise compute resources and cloud-based research computing resources. I also worked with researchers to train them on the use of computational tools and resources, the implementation of data security best practices, and navigating University Policy and legal requirements for research. I sought to combine my extensive knowledge of computational statistical and data science education with my engineering background to bridge the gaps between researchers and IT.

I work with the Columbia Population Research Center (CPRC) leadership and faculty to identify, implement and manage CPRC research computing services, including: research applications; research storage; secure data management; data repositories and archives; and collaboration approaches.
