With evidence-based and objective case examination, reports, and witness testimony, Dr. Welner has been sought out to resolve forensic mysteries from many of the most compelling cases of the past decade, from Elizabeth Smart's kidnappers, to mass killers like Aurora's James Holmes, risk assessment of Guantanamo's Omar Khadr, disputed confession of the alleged kidnapper of Etan Patz, investor competency of China's richest woman Nina Wang, investor exploitation claims against Morgan Stanley, and numerous investigations of ambiguous death. Dr. Welner is best appreciated within legal circles for work product that is penetrating in its investigation and definitive in analysis such that it promotes resolution of even contentious litigation. Dr. Welner is also responsible for numerous innovations promoting integrity, transparency, and effective and ethical practice. He has pioneered peer reviewed oversight in forensic casework, and leads a landmark research effort to operationalize evidence-based approaches to distinguishing the worst of crimes (The Depravity Standard) to bring fairness to sentencing decisions, and an inventory for clinical intervention in the worst of everyday behaviors (WIEEO).
