Partner And CfoSteinman Transportation 1978 - 1983Steinman was a specialty transport carrier licensed to haul new furniture to retailers. Regulated by the Ontario Highway Transport Board (OHTB), Steinman’s business opportunities were limited by its single-manufacturer license. My role in expanding the business was to orchestrate support from a broad-ranging group of retail customers. Each was required to appear and testify at OHTB hearings. More than a significant business expansion, the OHTB decision on this license extension proved to be pivotal in the company’s growth and also the growth of the transportation industry: it became a milestone in transport regulation. To this day it remains a model for the OHTB, having set new standards for deregulating the transport industry in the Province of Ontario Canada.
