Former award-winning newspaper reporter and less lauded stay-at-home dad, I am an experienced, entrepreneurial nonprofit leader who relishes both bold ideas and the partnerships often needed to bring them to life. I value strategic planning, consensus building and teamwork; am skilled at project coordination, special events, publicity and grant-writing; and embrace the traditional and digital when it comes to marketing, fundraising and other tools required to achieve success. Despite a pandemic in 2020, I launched a new TV show, BUZZ, which features the great work nonprofit organizations do in our communities, and the marketing professionals who help them do more, do better, by helping them create more ... buzz! Director Of Development And MarketingScience Museum Of Western Virginia Nov 2012 - Dec 2014Roanoke, Virginia AreaIn 2014, working for the Science Museum of Western Virginia and in partnership with Virginia Tech, I organized the first-ever Virginia Science Festival, funded in part from grants I secured from the Science Festival Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Appalachian Power and the Virginia Tourism Corporation.Conceived as a regional science celebration in Blacksburg and Roanoke, the festival vaulted into a statewide event thanks to the support we secured from U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, who agreed to serve as honorary chairmen; Gov. Terry McAuliffe who signed a proclamation declaring Oct. 4-11 "Virginia Science Week;" and the Virginia Tourism Corporation adopting "Virginia is for SCIENCE Lovers." More than 200 federal, state, local, university and nonprofit institutions — including NASA — participated in the festival. As development and marketing director, I also coordinated the museum's fundraising events and campaigns, grant proposals, membership program, summer camps, as well as the museum's digital, broadcast, print and public relations promotional campaigns. -
