Time at Best Buy began as a Geek Squad In-Store Agent. The focus of duties centered around customer interaction and quick-turnover repairs/maintenance. Upon re-enrolling for pursuit of a degree in Computer Science from GVSU, Michael transferred to security and sales to meet the time requirements of his studies.

Role at the News-Sun began as their IT Manager. Duties included maintaining and upgrading their technology while meeting budgeting concerns. Was responsible for maintenance of desktops, servers, and network appliances. Database upkeep and employee technology education were added to expandable skills from this position. Minor work in website maintenance, and regular content publishing After some time, the role of pre-press manager was added to the Tech duties. This included, pre-newsroom section layout, classifieds layout and editing, film printing, Ad Design Department management, and nearly the full production cycle of insert publications as well as third party print jobs.

I handled all the day to day IT issues as well as new projects. This included hardware upgrades, system interactions, and technical issues for offsite locations. He was additionally trained in publication and the production of classified listings and managed their print ad design team. I went on to use those skills in my next position at a sister paper owned by the same Parent Company when that position was phased out.

My duties at this job were to handle online Ad development and management for the newspaper website, as well as to work on special website projects for additional publications and local businesses.I designed several sites for local businesses and and sub-sites for seasonal publications associated with the Holland Sentinel. I would be involved with the original pitch for online Ads, the production of those ads, and keeping production schedule during their run. Also I handled the technical side of online auctions and online contests that were coordinated projects between our paper and community organizations.
