Michael W. (Mike) Maier served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and managed by Jefferson Science Associates, LLC. Mike and his team were responsible for management and operation of the 170 acre research campus supporting 800 employees and serving 1,600 scientific users from around the world under a $2B, 20 year contract. During his tenure he led Jefferson Lab to the highest laboratory operations award fee (PEMP) scores in the history of the facility.

Mike led the deployment of PAE expertise to improve the space launch, surveillance, and control capabilities of U.S. national security customers. He specialized in the design and delivery of high reliability operations and maintenance services through a series of engagements having a cumulative value of $2.3B over 27 years. He represented PAE on the management boards of the CSR, SCLS, and ATA joint ventures.

Mike served as general manager of CSR, PAE’s joint venture partnership responsible for the Eastern Range Technical Services Contract. He directed a $720M contract responsible for the operation and maintenance of instrumentation, communications, and information systems required to command and control space launch and ballistic missile tests from the United States Eastern Range, provide 24 hour space surveillance, and deliver base operations and logistics services at remote stations across the Atlantic Ocean.Under his leadership CSR attained the highest award fee scores in the 27 year history of the joint venture with four consecutive 100% ratings and an unprecedented string of 205 countdowns spanning an eight year period without a launch scrub due to CSR people or systems. Mike was the lead executive on successful 2007 ERTS proposal effort achieving a best value award at a price $54M greater than the second rated team.

Mike led the Systems Engineering and Analysis department of CSR. The department provided the United States Air Force customer with requirements analysis and test and evaluation services for new and modified tracking, telemetry, command and control, and and communications systems at the Eastern Range. He was also responsible for accuracy analysis and calibration of instrumentation systems, mission performance analysis, and technical studies of Range capabilities. He led teams responsible for the identification of root causes of launch anomalies, the development of the ground-breaking VISION Range status and countdown management system, and lean six sigma projects that streamlined and standardized all Eastern Range countdowns and mission planning process.
