About Michael Wolffhechel
When I'm not working as a Master of Law at the Municipality of Copenhagen I give presentations on the central theme of life: That one day every one of us will cease to exist. This may sound morbid but when we focus on death we increase our abilities to separate the important from the unimportant, we make our search for meaning much more honest and we create access to our 'authentic' self. In other words, we open up for a much more honest and deeply felt appreciation of life. But how to go from such grand ambition to real life?My presentations are based on the simple premise that the big questions of life are not in themselves complex and that we all relate to them. Of course. Can you imagine a person of flesh and blood that is not aware of his or her own mortality and personal responsibility, his or her existential isolation and quest for meaning? These are unavoidable questions that we relate to all throughout life more or less actively or passively. Denial of the existential givens of life, however, does not revoke them and the challenge is how to approach them in a mature, courageous and wise manner so we grow with them rather than remain crippled before them. To encourage such an approach we need less an intellectual understanding so much as an intuitive and playful approach where we dare to let our guard down and let our thoughts roam freely. To encourage this experience I have developed the character 'Skeleton-Man' that functions as a colourful, entertaining and disarming MC that will guide the audience through 'the existential universe'. This will introduce the audience to some of the big thinkers, such as, Soren Kierkegaard, but also popular writers, such as, Donald Duck animator Carl Barks or the Danish author Lise Nørgaard, both of whom have lots to offer in an existential context.More than anything the goal is for the audience to experience a safe room where thoughs can roam freely high and low and where play, fantasy and appreciation of life takes center stage.
