When I started saving money for my first car in high school, I realized how difficult it was to prioritize one thing over another. I had never had a solid income and I didn’t even know how to budget my money. This changed when I enrolled in a personal finance course, which to my surprise was not a required course at my high school. I realized how much I didn’t know about money and how many other students didn’t either, given the small class size. Through my high school senior project, I was able to highlight student concerns about personal finance and bring them to light in front of my school district board. It was this initial experience that encouraged me to pursue a career in the financial services industry.In college, I decided to major in finance and take supplemental financial planning classes to best fit my career goals. Over the four years of taking these classes, I worked at multiple internships to apply what I learned and get real-world experience. Throughout the course of my studies and experiences, I shared as much as I could with my friends on how to budget, invest, start building credit, and even taxes. I loved breaking down larger concepts into smaller, understandable pieces and helping them take control of their finances. I saw how much of a difference a little bit of guidance could make in people’s lives and knew I wanted to become a financial advisor.I currently work as a financial advisor at CLF Asset Management, a financial planner in Madison, WI, and am pursuing my Certified Financial Planner certification.
